Vintage Royston Turquoise and Silver Bracelet Navajo

Our one-of-a-kind vintage Royston turquoise bracelet is an extraordinary statement piece dating from the 1970s, centered upon a spectacular oversized turquoise stone whose scale, color and natural character command immediate attention. Brilliant blue turquoise is swept with areas of earthy brown and golden matrix, creating a beautiful landscape within the stone and giving it the individuality for which Royston turquoise is so admired.

Royston turquoise comes from the historic Royston mining district near Tonopah, Nevada, one of the celebrated sources of American turquoise. The material is particularly prized for its remarkable range of color—from vivid blue to blue-green—and for the distinctive brown, golden and earthy matrix that often runs through the stone. In an important vintage cabochon such as this, those natural markings become part of its beauty, a visible record of the earth from which it came.

The silversmith created an appropriately dramatic setting for such an exceptional stone. The enormous cabochon is held in a traditional serrated bezel and surrounded by deeply oxidized silver and an elaborate border of hand-worked silver elements. Beneath it, multiple sweeping bands of sterling silver form the substantial open cuff, giving the bracelet a wonderfully sculptural quality while allowing the turquoise to remain the undisputed focus.

This was an important period for Southwestern silversmithing, when bold scale, extraordinary American turquoise and highly individual handwork came together in pieces designed to have tremendous presence.
