Vintage Rare #8 Turquoise and Silver Bracelet Navajo

Our Vintage Rare #8 Turquoise and Silver Bracelet is the kind of piece Jean Marie hopes to encounter but rarely does, a striking union of sculptural silverwork and an exceptional vintage turquoise stone. At its center sits a beautifully domed #8 turquoise cabochon, alive with an intricate brown matrix that travels across its brilliant blue surface like a miniature landscape. Turquoise of distinctive color and matrix is particularly sought after, and vintage material from celebrated Nevada sources has become increasingly collectible.  This is not jewelry designed for perfect uniformity; its individuality is precisely what gives it such presence.

The rarity of the turquoise makes the bracelet especially compelling. Fine American turquoise is a finite natural material, and older stones from historically important deposits cannot simply be reproduced once that material is exhausted or no longer readily mined. The stone's matrix is its natural fingerprint, no second stone will carry exactly the same network of color and markings. That scarcity gives vintage turquoise a character quite different from newly manufactured jewelry: one is acquiring a material shaped by geology, history, and time. Turquoise itself has an exceptionally long history in Southwestern Native adornment, while its pairing with silver became widespread by the late nineteenth century. 

Equally remarkable is the handmade silver cuff surrounding the stone. The artisan has transformed silver into a bold, architectural composition of sweeping curves and open spaces, then set the turquoise securely within a raised bezel at its center. Traditional Southwestern silversmithing encompasses labor-intensive processes of forming, hammering, filing, soldering, casting, finishing, and stone setting, work that leaves subtle evidence of the maker rather than the mechanical perfection of mass production.  Here, those traces contribute to the bracelet's wonderfully tactile, vintage character.

Jean Marie was immediately captivated by this vintage piece which she found on her travels across the Southwest. Rare turquoise, vintage character, expressive silverwork, and true hand craftsmanship come together in a bracelet that cannot simply be recreated. It is wearable sculpture with a past, a singular piece to collect now, wear often, and eventually pass forward.
