Our Turquoise and Lapis Necklace from Santo Domingo (Kewa) Pueblo is a beautiful expression of balance, tradition, and timeless Southwestern artistry. Handcrafted exclusively for our collection by a talented female Santo Domingo artisan, this elegant four-strand necklace was specially commissioned by Jean Marie to celebrate two of the most treasured stones in Native jewelry. The rich royal blues of natural lapis lazuli blend effortlessly with vibrant turquoise, creating a striking composition that evokes endless desert skies meeting distant mountain horizons. For Jean Marie, commissioning jewelry has always been about far more than acquiring beautiful pieces. Through years of traveling to Santo Domingo Pueblo, she has formed lasting friendships with the artisans whose work she so deeply admires. When she sat down with this artisan, she envisioned a necklace that paired the deep, velvety blues of lapis with the bright brilliance of turquoise—a timeless combination that celebrates the colors of the Southwest. 

Lapis lazuli has captivated civilizations for thousands of years and has long been treasured as a stone of wisdom, truth, and inner strength. Its deep celestial blue, often accented with natural flecks of pyrite, has symbolized royalty and spiritual insight since ancient times. Turquoise, equally revered throughout the Southwest, represents protection, healing, harmony, and the enduring connection between earth and sky. 

Each bead has been individually shaped, drilled, and carefully strung by hand using techniques that have been passed down through generations of Santo Domingo artisans. The graceful four-strand design creates beautiful movement while allowing the alternating sections of lapis and turquoise to shine without overwhelming one another. A small turquoise accent near the top serves as the artisan's signature, a subtle reminder that this necklace was made by hand, not by machine, and that every detail reflects generations of inherited skill and artistry.
