This Rare Fox Graduated Turquoise Necklace Santo Domingo is an heirloom of the highest order, created exclusively for Pax Philomena by a renowned female artisan of the Santo Domingo Pueblo whose work has been honored in a special exhibition at the National Museum of the American Indian in Manhattan.

Our founder, Jean Marie, shares a personal bond with this artist, and it is through that relationship that this necklace came into being. In an act of rare generosity, the artisan drew from her own carefully guarded stockpile of Fox turquoise — material she has preserved for decades — to shape and string these exceptional beads. Fox turquoise, one of Jean Marie’s personal favorites, is treasured for its luminous spectrum of leafy greens, aquas, and warm golden-brown matrix, each stone evoking the earth and sky of the Nevada desert where it was first unearthed.

Once among the largest turquoise producers in the American West, the Fox mine has long since closed, rendering strands of this quality nearly unobtainable. Each graduated bead, sculpted and polished by hand, demonstrates not only the artisan’s mastery but also the continuity of a craft handed down through generations of Pueblo women.
