Rare Faceted Tanzanite Long Necklace
Our Rare Faceted Tanzanite Long Necklace celebrates one of the world's most coveted gemstones in a creation of remarkable beauty and quiet sophistication. Hand strung from exceptional transparent, gem-quality faceted tanzanites measuring approximately 5.4 mm, this magnificent 62-inch necklace showcases hundreds of individually hand-faceted gemstones in luminous shades of violet-blue, royal blue, and indigo. Rather than featuring a single tanzanite as the focal point, this extraordinary design brings together an exceptional succession of fine gemstones—an expression of luxury rarely encountered in contemporary jewelry. The exceptional transparency of the stones allows light to penetrate each facet, creating a necklace that glows with remarkable brilliance and depth from every angle.
Tanzanite is found in only one place on earth—a small mining area nestled in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro in northern Tanzania. Discovered in 1967, it remains one of the newest gemstones to enter the world of fine jewelry, yet it has become one of its most celebrated. Because the deposit is finite, exceptional material continues to become increasingly difficult to obtain. Revered for its mesmerizing violet-blue color and remarkable ability to reveal flashes of blue, violet, and indigo as it catches the light, fine tanzanite occupies a place among the world's most prized gemstones.
For more than three decades, Jean Marie has traveled the world in search of extraordinary textiles, gemstones, and artisan treasures that her patrons would be unlikely to discover on their own. Over the years she has cultivated enduring relationships with exceptional artisans, gemstone dealers, and collectors, giving her access to remarkable pieces rarely seen beyond their country of origin. She personally selected these exceptional transparent tanzanite strands after they had been meticulously hand faceted in Jaipur, India's legendary gemstone-cutting capital, choosing them for their remarkable color, exceptional transparency, and outstanding quality. She then envisioned them as an elegant long necklace of uncommon versatility.
Jaipur's tradition of lapidary craftsmanship dates back to the eighteenth century when Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II invited master stone cutters and jewelers from across the Indian subcontinent to establish their workshops in his newly founded city. Their descendants remain among the world's most accomplished gemstone artisans, preserving centuries of knowledge while transforming exceptional gemstones into works of enduring beauty.
Remarkably versatile, this necklace transforms effortlessly to suit every occasion. Wear it as a dramatic opera-length strand, double it to create a luxurious layered necklace, or triple it into an elegant choker that brings the extraordinary brilliance of the tanzanites close to the neckline. Few fine gemstone necklaces offer such versatility while maintaining such unmistakable elegance, making it equally at home with an evening gown, luxurious silk, or one of our signature Pax Philomena tunics or kaftans.
Personally envisioned by Jean Marie and brought to life by master artisans in Jaipur, this rare one of its kind faceted tanzanite necklace was created exclusively for the patrons of Pax Philomena. It reflects our enduring commitment to exceptional craftsmanship, remarkable rarity, and the pursuit of beauty beyond the ordinary.
