Royston Turquoise, Lapis, Orange Spiny Oyster and Silver Multi stone Earrings Navajo
Our Royston Turquoise, Lapis, Orange Spiny Oyster and Charoite Multi-Stone Earrings Navajo are an exuberant celebration of color, natural materials, and the unmistakable hand of a skilled female Navajo silversmith. Brilliant orange spiny oyster crowns each earring, followed by a dramatic rectangle of cobalt-blue lapis, two green Royston turquoise cabochons, and a beautifully elongated purple charoite stone at the center. Set individually in silver and punctuated by polished silver spheres, the stones form an almost architectural composition. The palette is unexpected yet remarkably harmonious, orange, blue, green, and violet coming together like a miniature collection of treasures gathered over time.
Each material carries its own story. Royston turquoise, from the historic mining district near Tonopah, Nevada, is prized for colors that range from aqua and blue-green to rich green, often crossed by warm earthy matrix. Turquoise has held an important place in Southwestern Native adornment for centuries, with associations that can include water, sky, health, and protection. Orange spiny oyster, from the Spondylus family of marine shells, traveled into the Southwest through long-established trade networks and became beloved for its extraordinary coral, orange, red, and purple coloration.
The intense blue of lapis lazuli introduces another history entirely. Treasured for thousands of years from ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt to Europe and Asia, lapis is composed principally of blue lazurite, often accompanied by pale calcite and tiny flecks of golden pyrite. The purple stone is charoite, a distinctive lapidary material associated with Siberia and prized for its swirling violet-to-lilac coloration. Rather than forcing a single symbolic meaning onto these very different materials, their beauty here lies in the dialogue between them, earth, shell, mineral, color, and generations of handwork brought together by one artist’s eye.
Jean Marie is especially drawn to Native jewelry that feels impossible to overlook, and these earrings immediately captured her imagination. Her love of Native American artistry began during childhood travels through the Southwest with her mother, Philomena, and today she continues to seek out pieces distinguished by craftsmanship and individuality. These earrings embody exactly what she loves: extraordinary natural materials, fearless color, and an artisan confident enough to bring them together in an entirely unexpected way. They are wearable sculpture, joyful, sophisticated, and unmistakably one of a kind in spirit.
