Falaknuma Fine Wool Kani Shawl One of a Kind
Introducing the Falaknuma Super Fine Wool Shawl, a luxurious and unique piece inspired by the grandeur of one of India’s most iconic palaces. This intricate craft of Kani weaving flourished under the Mughal Empire (16th–18th centuries), particularly during the reigns of Akbar and Jahangir, who appreciated fine textiles and elevated Kashmiri shawls as symbols of wealth and refinement. Akbar himself is said to have worn and gifted these shawls, sparking a cultural renaissance. By the 18th and 19th centuries, Kani shawls gained international fame, especially in Europe, with figures like French Empress Josephine owning several. This surge in demand led to the rise of imitation shawls, notably the Paisley shawls in Scotland and France.
Our one of a kind shawl features rich reds, oranges, and corals set against a black background. The warm colors and a delicate border highlight the sophistication of this traditional craft, which uses small wooden bobbins (kanis) to create intricate patterns on the loom. The process is labor-intensive, with some pieces taking months or even years to complete.
Made from the finest wool, this luxury piece honors a rich heritage of Kashmiri artistry and craftsmanship, making it a timeless addition to any wardrobe.
