Sedona Floral Maxi Kaftan Dress

Our Sedona Maxi is a Pax Philomena classic—one of the earliest dresses chosen by our founder Jean Marie for the collection and still one of her personal favorites. Its glorious palette captures the landscape of the American Southwest she loves: sun-warmed ochre and golden sand, the coral, rust and deep red of Sedona’s magnificent rock formations, touches of desert pink and green, all framed by an intricate hand-printed border.

The beauty of our Sedona begins with the centuries-old Indian art of hand block printing. This extraordinary textile tradition is practiced by skilled artisans who carve designs into wooden blocks, dip each block into color and press the pattern onto cotton by hand. More complex designs require multiple blocks and colors, carefully aligned one impression at a time. It is a wonderfully human process—the slight shifts and variations left by the artisan’s hand are part of the character of the cloth and ensure that no two dresses are ever exactly alike.

The placement of the print makes the Sedona particularly special. A delicate floral pattern travels through the center of the dress while elaborate geometric and floral borders sweep across the sleeves and dramatically frame the full length of the silhouette. Crisp ivory borders illuminate the warm desert colors and give this beautiful maxi its distinctive presence.

Made from lightweight, breathable 100% cotton voile, our Sedona Maxi can be worn loose and flowing or cinched at the waist with its drawstring, finished with hand-beaded tassels. Dress it up with jewelry and sandals for dinner or wear it simply for warm days and faraway travels.
