Our Samarcanda Ikat Italian Silk Midi Kaftan Dress is a celebration of two worlds connected by silk: the legendary Silk Road city of Samarkand and the extraordinary textile tradition of Como, Italy. Samarcanda is the Italian name for Samarkand, and the name captures the spirit behind this dress beautifully, a meeting of cultures, color, craftsmanship, and centuries of artistic exchange. Samarkand was one of the great crossroads of the Silk Road, where merchants, artisans, ideas, and precious textiles traveled between East and West. This design is especially meaningful to Pax Philomena because Como is where our founder and designer, Jean Marie, trained and learned the art of textiles. Como’s relationship with silk stretches back centuries, and its mills are renowned around the world for their artistry and craftsmanship. For Jean Marie, creating Samarcanda in Italian silk brings her own story full circle, taking inspiration from a legendary city along the ancient Silk Road and interpreting it through the Italian textile tradition that helped shape her creative life.

The ikat-inspired design is alive with color: lush greens mingle with vibrant fuchsia, warm gold, ivory, and deep forest tones in sweeping, painterly motifs.
