The moment she saw it, she knew it was special. There was only a small quantity available, and every yard was purchased, allowing only a handful of tunics to be created. 

Hand block printed on soft cotton, the design features striking Ammavari goddess faces, revered feminine figures whose presence has long appeared in South Indian folk and temple art. Interspersed throughout the pattern are motifs inspired by Kathakali, the classical dance-drama tradition of Kerala, famous for its elaborate costumes, expressive makeup, and larger-than-life storytelling. Together, these elements create a textile that feels both sacred and theatrical, filled with symbolism, beauty, and cultural memory.

The design draws inspiration from the centuries-old tradition of Kalamkari, one of India's most celebrated narrative art forms. Historically, Kalamkari textiles were created to tell stories from mythology, devotion, and daily life. Every figure carried meaning, transforming cloth into a canvas for storytelling. Here, the repeating goddess faces and dramatic motifs evoke that same sense of narrative, creating a garment that feels as much like art as it does fashion.
