True pashmina begins high in the Himalayan plateau, where the rare Changthangi goats survive extreme winters by growing an ultra-fine undercoat. Each spring, this precious fiber is gently hand-combed from the goats, never sheared, yielding one of the softest and most luxurious natural fibers in the world. The raw fibers are then spun entirely by hand into fine yarn, a slow and exacting process that preserves the integrity, warmth, and feather-light quality pashmina is revered for.

The ikat design itself is a labor of precision and intuition. Threads are individually tied, dyed, dried, and re-dyed before ever touching the loom, requiring the artisan to envision the final pattern entirely in advance. When woven, the colors align imperfectly by design, creating movement, depth, and a soulful softness that machine processes can never achieve. Jean Marie selected this shawl for its joyful palette and the way the colors seem to dance together, bold yet harmonious, expressive yet refined.
