Our Lapis and Turquoise Necklace from Santo Domingo is a beautiful expression of color, tradition, and the enduring artistry of Santo Domingo (Kewa) Pueblo jewelry makers. Handcrafted for us by a talented female Santo Domingo artisan, this elegant multi-strand necklace brings together the deep celestial blues of lapis lazuli with vibrant turquoise heishi accents in a design that is both timeless and sophisticated. The striking combination evokes the beauty of a Southwestern evening sky, where brilliant turquoise horizons give way to rich midnight blue.

Our founder, Jean Marie, commissioned this necklace directly from the artisan exclusively for our collection and personally selected it for its exceptional craftsmanship, harmonious color palette, and graceful wearability.

Lapis lazuli has been treasured for more than 6,000 years and was once considered one of the world's most precious gemstones. Revered by ancient civilizations as a symbol of wisdom, truth, and inner strength, its deep royal blue color has long been associated with the heavens. Beautiful flecks and natural variations within the stone give every bead unique character. Paired with turquoise, a sacred stone throughout the American Southwest that symbolizes protection, healing, and the connection between earth and sky, the necklace becomes a meaningful union of two of history's most beloved gemstones. As natural turquoise becomes increasingly scarce due to the closure of many historic American mines, jewelry featuring genuine turquoise has become even more treasured by collectors and admirers alike.

The art of heishi bead making is among the oldest jewelry traditions in North America and remains the signature of Santo Domingo Pueblo craftsmanship. Every bead is individually hand-cut, drilled, shaped, and polished before being carefully strung into multiple graceful strands that drape beautifully across the neckline. Whether worn with a crisp white blouse, denim, a flowing dress, or layered with other Southwestern favorites, this necklace offers effortless elegance while showcasing extraordinary Native artistry.
