King Kuta Indigo Maxi Kaftan

Sale price$413.00

The King Kuta maxi kaftan dress is named after Kuta a famous beach in Bali which Jean Marie loved when she visited in college. The island of Bali is famous for the art of batik which originates in Indonesia.

The Indians use a very similar ancient method of printing called dabu block printing. The fabric begins as white, then a patterned block is dipped in mud and stamped onto the fabric. Next the entire piece is dipped in indigo dye and the portions where the mud has been applied resist the color penetration leaving the floral design intact. Pieces are then washed several times to remove excess dyes and mud.

Subtle variations in colour and pattern are to be celebrated as they are evidence of the hand-made block printing and dyeing process that makes this dress unique.

One size, with adjustable drawstring waist

Length 54"

100% lightweight cotton voile

Delicate machine wash cold with mild detergent in a lingerie bag to protect tassels or hand wash cold. Hang Dry.  Washing this garment before wearing is recommended in order to prevent indigo dye from rubbing/transferring.
