This extraordinary Durgapur Kantha coat is a vibrant celebration of India’s long tradition of textile artistry. Each piece is created from layers of vintage cotton fabrics that have been hand-stitched together using the centuries-old kantha technique, a form of embroidery practiced by women across India for generations. Originally, kantha was a way of giving new life to cherished textiles, transforming them into beautiful, functional garments through thousands of small, rhythmic hand stitches.

What makes this coat particularly captivating is its joyful mix of patterns and colors. Swirling sunburst motifs in rich tones of coral, citron, and indigo dance across the deep ground, while contrasting panels of olive green with hand-printed crimson dots create a striking visual balance. The patchwork composition is entirely unique, a reminder that each kantha piece carries its own story, shaped by the hands that stitched it.
