Few people know that the origins of “tie dye” are ancient; dating back over 5000 years into the origins of human consciousness and civilization.  Despite modern associations with the ‘60s, social movements and bohemian lifestyle choices, the “Tie and Dye” technique, known in India as the "Bandhani" method, has been utilized to create elegant and sophisticated designs that have maintained their beauty through the millennia.  

Our mission is to bring beautiful clothing to our Pax Philomena patrons, but also to directly support the artisans who craft these items by hand. In a time where so many true artists are being threatened by “fast fashion” and digital printing methods we feel it is important to patronize the true artisans.

The Indian Tie Dye method know as "Bandhani" is very difficult to make and requires great skills which have been passed down through families for countless generations. Many of our artisans have been trained in these methods since childhood. Although the artisans work within a general pattern for each design, every piece is made by hand and each dress has its own unique “fingerprint” due to subtle variations. Every single dress is a unique work of art. 

The results, as you can see, are absolutely marvelous!  Our Tie Dye kaftans are both elegant and gorgeous — wonderfully comfortable for those who wear them and mesmerizing to those who behold them.
